Royal
Fleet Auxiliary - Unofficially! The ROLE of the RFA.
The RFA has various roles but it's main one is to provide fuel, stores and ammunition to the primary customer - the Royal Navy. Every major deployment of RN vessels needs a couple of RFA ships to sustain and provide logistical support. The force will not function without the Royal Fleet Auxiliary. The RFA and the RN have close links that formed a great many years ago. The secondary role of the RFA is to provide the Army and Royal Marines with secure transport during peace and wartime. Royal Marines exercises during the winter are supported by RFA vessels. Landing Ship Logistic or LSL vessels (Sir Class) provide accomodation and a platform to launch from. The secure transport role finds the RFA moving tanks, guns, ammunition; to name a few, all over the world. Over and above all the commitments the RFA has around the globe, the service is frequently called to assist in humanitarian operations. The RFA prides itself on being ready to deploy anywhere in the world with the shortest possible notice.
